Description

The icon shows a three-quarter-length image of the Virgin Mary, in a three-quarter turn to the left, her head slightly inclined and her crossed hands pressed to her chest. The Virgin Mary wears a red chiton, a yellow veil, and a dark-green maphorion. Around her head is a round golden halo bearing the circular inscription "REJOICE, O UNWEDDED BRIDE." In the upper left corner is the inscription "MR," and in the upper right "ΘU" (both in Church Slavonic). Around the perimeter of the icon is a narrow dark-brown frame, underscored by a thin brown band. The background is brown. The panel is reinforced with inset end battens.

The icon was acquired by the museum in 1983 from Viktor Panteleimonovych Hostyshchev, a resident of Kharkiv.
