Description
The icon shows a half-length, frontal image of the saint as an elderly man, in episcopal vestments: sakkos, maphorion-like omophorion, and a mitre on his head. He blesses with his right hand and holds a closed Gospel in his left. The icon is set in a metal riza, on which the saint's garments and the Gospel are worked in relief, decorated with blue and light-blue enamel, with a frame of floral ornament around the perimeter of the riza. The halo is applied, with a floral ornament, decorated with pink and light-blue enamel. At the bottom is the inscription: "ST. NICHOLAS THE WONDER[WORKER]." Beneath the riza, the saint's oil-painted head and hands are visible. Yellow-brown tones predominate in the painting.
On the reverse, on a metal plate, is an inscription (in Russian): "To the deeply revered pastor, Father Georgii Grekov, from the grateful parishioners of the Church of St. Nicholas in the sloboda of Pisky, for his diligent care for the splendor of the church. September 15, 1909."
