Description
The book was printed at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in 1881. Printed in two colors (black and red), the text in Church Slavonic, set within a double frame: a thin one and one decorated with a floral ornament. Catchwords appear at the foot of the pages, with letter foliation in the upper right corner of the frame. The Gospel is decorated with running heads, headpieces, initials, and tailpieces. The edition contains four color lithographs depicting the Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John with Saint Prochorus. The covers are wooden, bound in dark-brown leather, with stamping in the form of a floral ornament and a cross, and a clasp. The edition bears a handwritten dedicatory inscription in red and black ink (in Russian): "I give this as a fond keepsake to my much-esteemed brother Mikhail Denisovich Dogvinenko, a gift from your brother Mikhail Deodule...on Mount Athos."
The book was transferred to the museum by decision of the Council for Religious Affairs under the Kharkiv Regional Executive Committee in 1985.
