Fragment of an Embroidered Sticharion in Ukrainian Baroque Style

Description

A fragment of a sticharion, made of white homespun linen. It takes the form of an elongated wide band, decorated with a floral ornamental composition embroidered in black silk and silver metal thread. At the center is a band with stylized bunches of grapes, almond-shaped fruit, rosette-flowers, small buds, and trefoils, bordered above and below by narrow garlands of flowers and leaves. Along the lower and upper edges of the fragment are joining seams decorated with small rhombuses.

The object belonged to the collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda; during the occupation of Kharkiv in the Second World War (1941–1943), it remained in the museum.
