Description
A fragment of a sticharion, of bleached homespun linen. It takes the form of a wide band of fabric, decorated with embroidery in red cotton thread, in "towel-stitch" technique. The composition is longitudinal; at the center, a winding branch with flowers, leaves, and tendrils; above and below, linear chain-like borders, along which trefoils are rhythmically placed. The lower edge is finished with an overcast hem; along one of the narrower edges is the remnant of a joining seam.
The fragment of the sticharion entered the museum from the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda.
During the occupation of Kharkiv in the Second World War (1941–1943), the object remained in the occupied city.
