Description
Made of bleached homespun fabric, embroidered in two tiers with a floral ornament in red cotton thread (crewel wool), in "towel-stitch" technique. The upper tier's embroidery consists of two large compositions in the form of a "small tree of life," with a bud between them. The lower tier is decorated with six palmettes with scrollwork. The upper and lower tiers of embroidery are separated by a "retiaz" (chain-like) band; along the right edge is a "merezhuvannia" joining seam; the lower edge is finished with an overcast hem.
The fragment of the sticharion entered the museum from the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda.
During the occupation of Kharkiv in the Second World War (1941–1943), the object remained in the occupied city.
