Description

A rectangular cover of light, cream-toned silk. At the center, within a rectangular frame surrounded by a fine floral ornament of rose bouquets, garlands, bows, and ribbons, is a large equal-armed cross of elaborate form with widened lobes. At the crossing of the cross is a rosette flower; the lobes bear a floral pattern with mesh, and rays of radiance in bundles extend from the crossing of the arms (embroidered in gold and silver metal thread, with the addition of sequins, filled with foil). Around the edge of the cover is a fringe trim of gold metal thread.

Note: the cover (pokrivets) was used in Orthodox worship to cover the sacred vessels (the diskos and the chalice), or as a smaller "aer" (the larger covering veil).
