Description
The embroidery is worked on canvas in colored silk thread, in cross-stitch technique.
In the foreground is a road, overgrown with yellow-green vegetation, leading upward. On the road is the figure of Jesus Christ, in a three-quarter turn to the left (his head shown frontally), in dynamic motion. Christ has long hair, a mustache, and a beard; around his head is a halo in the form of a radiant glow. He wears a pink, belted chiton and a blue himation; his right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing, while with his left he supports on his shoulder the large wooden cross he carries. In the background are white city buildings and the outline of a mountain.
The reverse of the embroidery is reinforced with paper.
The object entered the museum's collection in 1956.
Note: the subject of the embroidery is based on the Gospel account of Jesus Christ carrying the wooden cross to Golgotha.
