Description

A towel made of white linen fabric. The ends are decorated with a geometric ornament worked in cross-stitch with black and red thread. The repeating pattern consists of a chain of rhombuses with geometricized flowers set into the center of each figure and into the spaces between them. Along the top edge of the ornamental band are small toothed leaves, and along the bottom a stylized fringe. On one edge of the towel is a text embroidered into it: "Borky. Spasov Skit. June 14, [18]94."

Legend: the towel was embroidered in memory of the miraculous survival of the Tsar's family in the train disaster near Borky station.
