Description
The pelena is made of gray silk fabric, woven throughout with a floral composition in brown, light-blue, and lilac tones. The ornament consists of winding garlands of roses with leaves and buds, complemented by small flowers and individual vases with floral bouquets.
The pelena takes the form of an elongated, narrow cloth. Near one of the narrower edges is an eight-pointed cross on a stand, worked in silver galloon with a floral pattern. The other narrow edge is decorated with a fringe of silk thread.
The pelena is lined on the reverse with light-colored cotton fabric.
The object entered the museum's holdings in 1955.
Note: "pelena" is a general term for a group of ornamental textiles used in church practice. This particular pelena was used as an underlay beneath liturgical objects.
