Description

The nabedrennik takes the form of a rectangular cloth. The front is made of light-golden brocade with a polychrome floral ornament (a winding branch with green leaves and flowers of varying sizes in pink-red, white, and lilac tones). Around the perimeter, the cloth is bordered with wide metal galloon with a floral pattern; along the lower edge is sewn a metal fringe trim. At the center is sewn an applied four-pointed cross with radiance (embroidered in silver and gold spangle).

The reverse is lined with yellow cotton fabric.

A cotton ribbon is sewn to the upper corners of the nabedrennik, for wearing it over the shoulder at the right hip.

The object entered the museum's collection in 1954.

Note: the nabedrennik (Greek epigonation) is a component of the liturgical vestments of Orthodox and Greek Catholic clergy. It symbolizes the "spiritual sword" — that is, the Word of God, with which the clergyman is armed to struggle against unbelief and impiety for truth and justice, and which signifies the Lord's victory over death. It is awarded to priests for zealous and lengthy service.
