Description
The icon is made of yellow metal, rectangular in form, with a shaped header at the top. On the reverse of the header is a loop with a hole for hanging. At the center of the composition, against a stippled background, is a full-length image of Saint Nicholas of Mozhaisk, standing with his arms spread to the sides; in his left hand he holds a church (a symbol of the town of Mozhaisk), and in his right a raised sword. The saint wears episcopal vestments and is shown with a high forehead and a thick beard; around his head is a round halo. At the top of the icon, in the upper part of the frame, is the Church Slavonic inscription: "Saint Nicholas of Mozhaisk." In the header of the icon is an image of the Savior: Christ with long hair and a thick mustache and beard; to the left and right of the halo is the inscription "Jesus Christ." Around the perimeter of the icon is a wide frame with a winding floral ornament.
The icon was donated to the museum by Liudmyla Romanivna Kondratenko, a resident of the town of Valky, Valky district, Kharkiv region, in 1968.
