Description

The folding icon is a triptych made of yellow metal. The central leaf is square, with a rectangular header at the top. On the reverse of the header is a loop with a hole for hanging. The side leaves are rectangular and narrow, joined to the central leaf by hinges (folded together, they match the dimensions of the central leaf). On the central leaf, at the center of the composition, against a mesh background, is a full-length image of Saint Nicholas of Mozhaisk. He stands on a broad plinth decorated with a geometric ornament, his arms spread to the sides; in his left hand he holds a church (a symbol of the town of Mozhaisk), and in his right a raised sword. The saint wears episcopal vestments and is shown with a high forehead and a thick beard; around his head is a round halo. To the left and right of the saint's halo are images of the Mother of God and Jesus Christ. At the top of the icon is the Church Slavonic inscription: "Saint Nicholas of Mozhaisk." In the header is an image of the Savior. On the left leaf, arranged in three rows, are six selected saints; on the right leaf are the feasts "The Resurrection of Christ" and "The Ascension of Christ."

The icon was donated to the museum by Oleksandr Mykhailovych Abdula, a resident of the town of Merefa, Kharkiv region, in 1968.
