Description
The icon is rectangular, made of yellow metal, with a shallow recessed "ark" and a narrow rim. At the center of the composition is a half-length image of the Mother of God with the Infant Christ on her left arm. Christ blesses with his right hand. Around them are six cherubim, their wings joined in a circle. The "circle" is inscribed within two rhombuses with concave sides, together forming an eight-pointed star. In the corners of the star are the four Evangelists and their symbols. The star is set within an oval bearing images of the eight archangels. In the four corners of the icon are Old Testament scenes: the Vision of the Burning Bush to the Prophet Moses; the Vision of the Prophet Isaiah; the Vision of Ezekiel; the Vision of Jacob. At the top of the icon is the Church Slavonic inscription: "The Image of the Burning Bush." The background is decorated with light-blue and white enamel.
The icon entered the museum's holdings in 1954.
