Description

The front leaf of an encolpion cross, with loops at the top and bottom. The leaf takes the form of an openwork four-armed cross with rounded ends, into whose crossing a four-armed cross with straight ends is set. At the edges of the outer cross are the monograms "IC XC" and the inscription "NIKA" (the letters N and I transposed). The inner cross bears a depiction of the Crucifixion, with the monogram "IC XC" above Christ's head. The inset cross is fixed to the inside of the leaf by four "prongs."

The cross entered the museum's holdings in 1951.
