Description
Made of white-toned metal with gold spraying.
The central part of the clasp is decorated with a stylized image of a saint, standing barefoot on a pedestal surrounded by garlands of flowers and fruit. He wears a long robe and mantle, pressing a book to his chest with his right hand, with a round halo above his head. The composition is completed by an image of a cherub amid the heavenly spheres.
At the base of the clasp is a hinged loop for attachment to the book's back cover; at the top is a flat, round loop for fastening onto a pin in the book's front cover.
Note: the clasp is a fragment of a book that belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the H. S. Skovoroda Historical Museum. The book was evacuated in 1941, and the clasp, as a fragment of the book, was returned to Kharkiv in November 1944.
