Description
Likely a corner element of the back cover's binding for a Gospel.
Made of white-toned metal in the Ukrainian Baroque style, using a high-relief technique. It has the form of a stylized triangle. Along the left and bottom edges of the corner-piece runs the outline of the book's binding. Within the corner-piece is a round reserve for a medallion, framed with a beaded border and surrounded by lush floral scrollwork (rocaille).
Several technical holes are present: larger ones for a pin, smaller ones from nails.
Note: the object comes from the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the Historical Museum. It was evacuated in October 1941 and returned to the museum in November 1944.
