Description

The frame is made of a silver plate, rectangular in form, which covered most of the painting, leaving free the faces and hands of the Mother of God, the Infant, the archangels, and the hierarchs, as well as the Child's feet. The image of the Mother of God is positioned on the right, and Jesus Christ on the left. The Mother of God presses the Infant to herself, his cheek touching her face. She wears a tunic and maphorion decorated with a floral ornament and the stars of the Ever-Virgin. Christ wears a shirt-like garment. Above their heads are halos (now lost). In the upper left and right corners of the frame are depictions of Archangel Michael and Archangel Gabriel within round cartouches. Beneath the image of Archangel Michael are the figures of the hierarchs Peter and Jonah. Beneath the image of Archangel Gabriel are the figures of two hierarchs, one of whom is Philip (the name of the other hierarch is poorly legible). The entire surface of the frame is covered with a winding floral ornament of branches and flowers. Around the perimeter, the frame is decorated with a dotted ornament and convex rhombuses.

The frame belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the Historical Museum; it was evacuated in 1941, and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944.
