Description
On the oval medallion, covered with enamel, is a half-length image of the Mother of God, in a three-quarter turn to the right, with her hands folded in prayer. She wears a light-blue tunic and a red maphorion; around her head is a round yellow halo with the inscriptions "MR" and "ΘU" ("Mother of God"). The medallion is decorated with artificial stones of red and light-green color. Attached to the medallion is a metal relief figurine of Saint Gregory the Theologian.
Note: the object belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the H. S. Skovoroda Historical Museum. It was evacuated in 1941, and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944.
Saint Gregory the Theologian (c. 329 – 389/390) was an eminent Christian theologian, Archbishop of Constantinople, and one of the three Ecumenical Teachers of the Church.
