Description

The Gospel was printed in 1908. Printed in a single color, the text divided into two columns separated by a thin vertical line. The text is set within a thin frame, whose corners end outward in palmettes. The edition has running heads, with numeric pagination in the upper outer corners of the pages. The cover is of stiff cardboard, covered in dark-green calico, with stamping. The front cover has an ornamental frame, at whose center is a shaped cartouche bordered by winding branches, containing a gold-toned eight-pointed cross; in the corners are trefoils. The back cover repeats the stamping of the front. The spine is decorated with a stamped four-petaled flower and the gilt inscription: "The Holy Gospel."

The book was donated to the museum by H. I. Petrov of Kharkiv in 1976.

Note: the Gospel is the principal part of the New Testament, which is in turn part of the Bible. The Gospel contains accounts of Jesus Christ, his life, his teaching, his death, and his resurrection.
