Icon frame of "Mother of God with Child"

The riza is golden in color, in the form of a shaped plate that covered part of the painting, leaving the figures of the Mother of God and the Infant exposed. The image of the Mother of God is positioned on the right, and Christ on the left. The Mother of God's maphorion is decorated with a dotted ornament and a single star. Openings are left around the heads of the Virgin Mary and Christ for the halos. The inner edge of the frame is partly decorated with shaped teeth. The frame and field of the riza are ornamented with a stylized motif of shells and scrollwork. On the frame, at the bottom of the riza, within a shaped cartouche, is a Church Slavonic prayer inscription to the Mother of God, asking her to ease sorrows and console the sighing soul.

The icon's riza belonged to the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda. During the Second World War it was evacuated and returned to Kharkiv in 1944.
