Description
The object is a fragmentary icon frame, rectangular in form, worked in the technique of openwork filigree with granulation elements. At the center is a special cutout for the images of the Mother of God and the Infant, above whose heads are applied halos with a toothed edge, joined into one. The Mother of God's halo is complemented by an applied crown. The field of the frame is composed of wire spirals, scrolls, and shoots, entirely filled with small granulation beads. Around the perimeter is a wide frame of the icon depicting two attendant figures.
The end sections of the frame take the form of continuous bands.
The object belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the Historical Museum.
It was evacuated in 1941, and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944.
