Description

The icon is a triptych made of a copper alloy, with rectangular leaves and a shallow recessed "ark," joined by hinges. At the top of the central leaf are two loops for hanging. At the center is an image of the icon "Mother of God, Joy of All Who Sorrow," on which the Most Holy Theotokos is shown full-length with arms outstretched. She is surrounded on both sides by the sick and the crippled. To the left and right of the Mother of God's halo are texts from a prayer to the Theotokos. Above the Mother of God's head, amid clouds, is God the Father, Lord of Sabaoth. On the leaves: on the right, the icon "Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker"; on the left, the icon "Holy Martyrs Cyricus and Julitta." On the reverse of the folding icon is a depiction of the Cross of Golgotha within an oval cartouche, bordered by a winding floral ornament.

The triptych was seized by the Boryspil customs post in 1991–1993 and entered the museum's holdings by decision of the State Customs Committee of Ukraine and the National Committee for the Return of Cultural Property to Ukraine under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 1995.
