Description

The book was printed at the printing house of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in 1861.

Printed in two colors (black and red for the title and first page; black for the remaining leaves). The text is in Church Slavonic. The text of the title page is enclosed within a wide ornamental frame in the Old Rus' style. Within the same style of frame is a full-page woodcut engraving with the subject "The Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos" (engraver L. Seryakov). The book's decoration is complemented by headpieces, tailpieces, and initials. The edges of the text block are gilded.

The text of the pages sits within an ornamental frame depicting palmettes within elongated arches with shoots; running heads appear at the top of the frame. Letter foliation appears in the upper right corner, with signatures at the bottom center of the pages.

On the first flyleaf is the text of a "sermon of instruction" for the day of Christ's Resurrection (a manuscript in blue ink).

The book belonged to the family of the Kharkiv artist Mykola Mykolaiovych Storozhevsky.

It was donated to the museum by [N. A.] Lapin of Kharkiv in 1953.
