Description
The icon depicts the Mother of God with the Infant Christ, who blesses with his right hand; it belongs to the Hodegetria type (from the Greek "She Who Shows the Way"). The Mother of God is shown half-length, the Child full-length, in a three-quarter turn to the left. The Mother of God wears a green shirt-like garment and a red maphorion with a yellow border. The Child wears a white chiton and a dark-green himation. The Mother of God inclines toward the Child on her right, holding him with her left hand, her right hand pressed to her chest. Christ holds a scroll in his left hand. The icon is painted on a panel.
The icon was acquired by the museum from Oleh Oleksandrovych Bondarenko, a resident of the village of Paniutyne, Lozova district, Kharkiv region, in 1995.
