Description

Printed in the mid-17th century.

Printed in two colors (black and red). The text is in Church Slavonic. Running heads appear at the top of the pages. Foliation appears in the lower right corner, with signatures at the bottom center of the pages. At the beginning of the book is a preface, and at the end an afterword. The book is decorated with headpieces, tailpieces, and initials.

The Book of Hours has a hard cover with wooden boards, covered in brown leather with a stamped pattern: on the front board, an ornamental frame of floral elements, within which is an elongated rectangle with an inset double shaped rhombus; on the back board, a frame repeating the pattern of the front. On the edges of the boards are the remnants of clasps.

The museum acquired this edition from citizen Pryvalov in 1952.

Note: the Book of Hours (Horologion) is a liturgical book containing Orthodox prayers and church chants for the daily church services.
