Description
At the center of the composition is Jesus Christ, seated on a throne; to his left and right stand the Mother of God and John the Baptist. In his right hand he holds a scepter topped with a cross, and in his left an orb. Christ wears a green sticharion and a light-blue sakkos with a red border and crosses; on his head is a mitre. Above his head and to either side is the Church Slavonic inscription: "King of Glory" and "Jesus Christ." Rays of light emanate from Christ's head. To the left of the throne stands the Mother of God, her hands folded on her chest. She is shown full-length, in a three-quarter turn to the right; above her head is the inscription: "Mother of God." To the right of the throne stands John the Baptist, holding a cross in his left hand, his right pressed to his chest. He is shown full-length, in a three-quarter turn to the left, dressed in a brown garment and a green himation; above his head is the inscription: "Saint John the Baptist." On the posts of the throne sit an eagle (symbol of the Evangelist John) and an angel (symbol of the Evangelist Matthew). At the feet of the Mother of God and John sit an ox (symbol of the Evangelist Luke) and a lion (symbol of the Evangelist Mark). Around its perimeter, the icon is decorated with a wide relief frame of golden-toned floral-ornament foil. The icon is set in a wooden case under glass.
The icon was acquired by the museum from Yurii Pylypovych Lysokolenko, a resident of the Hotvald district, in 1990.
