<lido:objectDescriptionSet>
            <lido:descriptiveNoteValue xml:lang="en">The composition of the icon consists of three registers: the events take place on earth (the middle part of the icon), in Paradise (the upper part), and in Hell (the lower part). In the middle part, at the center, is a full-length image of Jesus Christ, in a three-quarter turn to the left, amid rays of radiance. He wears a chiton and himation. His right hand is extended to the left, his left to the right, toward the righteous rising from Hell. To Christ's left, five angels descend; they wear chitons and himations, with halos above their heads. Beneath Christ's feet is a black abyss — Hell — from which the righteous rise upward. In the lower part of the icon, at the center, is another full-length image of Jesus Christ, in a three-quarter turn to the left, amid rays of radiance. He wears a chiton and himation. His right hand is extended to the left, his left to the right, toward the righteous who surround him. To the right is an image of a righteous man and three angels; to the left, ten righteous figures, with halos above their heads. To the right of Christ, on the halos, are Church Slavonic inscriptions: "Angel of the Lord," "Solomon," "David," [...]; to the left, "Lot," "Shem," "Abel," "Rachel," "Rebecca," "Eve," [...]. In the upper part of the icon, on the right, is a depiction of Paradise as a brick building with a large light-filled arched window. In the window are three figures: Enoch, the Prophet Elijah, and [an angel]. On the margins of the icon are inscriptions. At the top left is the inscription: "The Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women came to the Tomb of the Lord." Beside the inscription is a scene: three women, shown in a three-quarter turn to the left, stand before an angel, shown in a three-quarter turn to the right. At the lower left is the inscription: "The Lord commanded His angels to bind Satan for a thousand years and beat him mercilessly..." At the bottom is the inscription: "...with Adam and all that is with him." Beside this inscription is a scene: Jesus Christ is shown full-length, in a three-quarter turn to the right. He wears a chiton and himation. Christ extends his hand to Adam, shown kneeling, in a three-quarter turn to the left. He has a covering around his hips. He stretches both hands toward Christ. At the upper right is the inscription: "The thief shall come to the gate of Paradise, and the cherub shall bar it with a fiery weapon, but he shall show the sign of the Cross." Beside the inscription is a scene: the thief Rach stands at the gate of Paradise. He has folded his hands on his chest in prayer; an angel stands beside him. At the lower right is the inscription: "He appeared before his disciples on the Sea of Tiberias, who were fishing, and said, 'Peace be with you.'" Beside the inscription is a depiction of a boat with two figures in it. The inscription at the top reads: "The Resurrection of Christ." The icon is painted within a shallow recessed "ark," on a panel. Golden-brown tones predominate. On the reverse, the panel is reinforced with two horizontal and two end inset battens.
The icon belonged to the collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda.
Legend: the Resurrection of Christ is a symbol of Christ's victory over death, which brought humanity deliverance from the bondage of sin and opened the way to spiritual renewal.
The Evangelists left no description of the moment of the Resurrection itself, since no human being directly witnessed the event. For this reason, in Orthodox iconographic tradition, the Resurrection is conveyed through the image of the "Descent into Hell," grounded in Holy Scripture and Tradition. Jesus Christ, in the radiance of the mandorla, appears as the Victor, who has destroyed the gates of Hell and broken its chains. Stretching out his hands to Adam and Eve, he opens the way to the salvation of all humankind.</lido:descriptiveNoteValue>
