Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum ТК-1571 The body of the mitre has a rigid base, covered on the outside with gold-toned brocade. On the crown are four bands of the main fabric, arranged crosswise, joined at their point of intersection. Along the lower edge of the band is a raised gold-toned trim. The mitre is decorated with four compositions depicting two leafy branches surmounted by a crown, four compositions of two crossed branches with flowers and leaves tied with a ribbon, and a winding floral ornament in the form of "S-motifs" or "keys" (the embroidery is worked in twisted gold and silver metal thread and gold spangle, with the addition of metal sequins). On the inside, the mitre is lined with orange-colored silk fabric. The mitre entered the museum's holdings in 1956. Note: the mitre (Greek mítra — "headband," "turban") is the liturgical headpiece of senior clergy (bishops) and of priests decorated by a bishop for special service to the Church.
