The upper part of the folding icon is shaped like a church dome. The leaves are joined by convex round hinges. At the center is an image of the Mother of God. The Mother of God, "Joy of All Who Sorrow," is shown full-length with arms outstretched. She is surrounded on both sides by the sick, the crippled, and those afflicted at heart. To the left and right of the Mother of God's halo are inscriptions from a prayer to the Theotokos: "Look upon us, sorrowful and sinful," "Raise us up from the depths of sin and deliver us from hunger." On the leaves are scenes of the Twelve Great Feasts: on the left, "The Entry into Jerusalem" and "The Presentation of the Lord"; on the right, "The Descent into Hell" and "The Ascension"; in the kokoshnik, "God the Father, Lord of Sabaoth."
