Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-655 The Gospel binding is gray-toned, rectangular in form; at the center is a relief depiction of the Mother of God, holding the Infant Jesus in her arms, amid clouds. Christ blesses with his right hand and holds the Gospel in his left. The Mother of God is shown half-length, frontally. The Child is shown full-length, in a three-quarter turn to the left. The Mother of God wears a tunic and a maphorion decorated with a floral ornament. Christ wears a chiton and himation. On the heads of the Mother of God and Christ are crowns with a cross; they have round halos with a diamond-mesh ornament. Above the image of the Mother of God with the Infant are two angels, holding a round radiance (mandorla) with diverging rays and a monogram at the center. Beneath the image of the Virgin Mary and Child is a shell motif. On either side of the central composition are shoots with flowers, buds, and leaves. Around the top and bottom edges is the Church Slavonic inscription: "This Holy Gospel was erected by the servant of God Hryhorii Korobeinyk for the church of ... in the year 1771." The side edges of the binding are decorated with a wavy relief. The Gospel binding was made in 1771. The object belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the Historical Museum.
