Сумцова M. F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-107 An altar cross, of cypress, in a metal frame, with trilobed arms and a socket-stand. On the front of the cross is a depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ, with attendant figures. Above the crucifixion is the scene "The Resurrection of Christ"; at the end of the left arm, the scene "The Nativity of Christ." On the reverse of the cross is depicted the Mother of God holding the Infant Christ in her arms, with two angels on either side. Above is the scene "The Dormition of the Mother of God"; in the lower part, the scene "The Annunciation" (the carving is worn). At the end of the right arm is "The Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Temple." The lower part of the cross and one of the side arms are lost. The metal frame of the cross is decorated along the arms with an engraved floral ornament (winding leaves and rocaille cartouches). At the ends of the upper and side arms are small ball finials mounted (others lost). A metal rod is attached to the cross, joining it to the socket-stand. The stand of the cross is in two tiers, with edges curved outward. The lower tier is decorated with alternating compositions of flowers, fruit, and leaves and rocaille cartouches. Between the lower and upper tiers is a "band." The lower part of the upper tier is decorated with compositions of flowers and fruit, alternating with depictions of cherubim. The stand gradually narrows into a cylindrical form, decorated with stylized leaves. The cross belonged to the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda.
