Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-96 The cup of a chalice; its lower part is made of light-brown-toned metal, its upper part of gold-toned metal, underscored by a double "band," with edges slightly curved outward. On the upper part of the chalice is a depiction of a cross within a double stylized circle decorated with a floral ornament. The cross is a straight, four-armed cross; above it are the letters "INRI" ("Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews"), beneath its side arms "IC XC" and "NIKA," and to its left and right the instruments of the Passion — a spear and a reed. The cup of the chalice belonged to the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda. During the Second World War it was evacuated and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944. Note: the chalice (potir) is the sacred liturgical cup used to consecrate wine and to celebrate the sacrament of Communion.
