Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-76 The base of the chalice is made of silver- and gold-toned metal. The foot is stepped, in two tiers, with a round base and edges curved outward, bearing an inset inscription. The lower tier is decorated with rocaille cartouches with acanthus leaves and compositions of flowers and fruit, divided by vertical gold-toned bands. Between the lower and upper tiers is a dotted ornament and a gold-toned "band." The upper tier is decorated with relief heads of winged cherubim and a floral ornament — floral rosettes. Around the edge is the inset Church Slavonic inscription: "In 1776, Akabum Babychev commissioned this cup for the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Romankove, for the repose of his parents Maksym and Anastasia, through the effort of the priest Feodor Shchetynsky." The chalice was made in 1776. The object belonged to the pre-war (pre-1941) part of the collection of the Historical Museum. It was evacuated in 1941 and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944. Note: the chalice (potir) is the sacred liturgical cup used to consecrate wine and to celebrate the sacrament of Communion.
