Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-65 The cup of a chalice, made of gold-toned metal; medallions (now lost) were once set into its lower portion. Along the upper edge of the cup is the Church Slavonic inscription: "Drink of it, all of you, for this is My Blood of the New Testament," between which is a depiction of a cross within a double stylized circle decorated with a floral ornament. The cross is a straight, four-armed cross; above and below its side arms are the letters "IC XC" and "NIKA," and to its left and right are the instruments of the Passion — a spear and a reed. The cup of the chalice belonged to the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda. During the Second World War it was evacuated and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944. Note: the chalice (potir) is the sacred liturgical cup used to consecrate wine and to celebrate the sacrament of Communion.
