F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum М-51 The foot of the chalice is made of silver-toned metal, in two tiers, with a round base and shaped edges curved outward, bearing a donor's inscription. The lower tier of the foot is decorated with convex, drop-shaped cartouches of floral and fruit compositions, alternating with images of cherubim. On the upper tier is an applied figure of a cherub (the others are lost). The upper part of the tier is cylindrical in cross-section, gradually tapering, with an overlay in the form of leaves. Around the edge is the Church Slavonic inscription: "The Cossack comrade of the Doskyi kurin granted [this] to Zakharii Martynov." The chalice belonged to the pre-war collection of the Sloboda Ukraine Museum named after H. S. Skovoroda. During the Second World War it was evacuated and returned to Kharkiv in November 1944. Note: the chalice (potir) is the sacred liturgical cup used to consecrate wine and to celebrate the sacrament of Communion.
