Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum Ж-1300 The icon has a shallow recessed "ark." At the center of the composition is Christ crucified, shown in a three-quarter turn to the left, wearing a loincloth, his head bowed onto his chest. To the right of the cross is the Apostle John the Theologian, Christ's beloved disciple, shown full-length in a three-quarter turn to the left, wearing a chiton and himation, his left hand lowered, his right hand stretched toward the cross. Beside him, further right, is the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, shown full-length in a three-quarter turn to the left, wearing a sakkos and a crown. Behind him is Constantine's mother, Helena, in rich vestments with a crown on her head, shown half-length in a three-quarter turn to the left. To the left of the cross, closest to it, is the full-length figure of the Mother of God, in a three-quarter turn to the right, wearing a tunic and maphorion, her head bowed, her left hand pressed to her chest, her right hand stretched toward the cross. To the left of the Mother of God is the Archangel Michael in armor, shown full-length in a three-quarter turn to the right, holding a fiery sword in his right hand and a shield in his left, his head slightly bowed. Further back, to the right, is a half-length image, in a three-quarter turn to the right, of Saint [Nicholas], to whose left is a bust-length image, also in a three-quarter turn to the right, of Mary Magdalene with a white veil on her head. Halos surround the heads of the saints. At the foot of the cross is the skull of Adam. Above, amid clouds and radiance, is an image of God the Father, Lord of Sabaoth, his hands raised in blessing. Around the perimeter of the icon is a frame with a floral ornament. Yellow-brown tones predominate in the painting. The icon panel is reinforced with two inset battens. The icon was donated to the museum by citizen S. P.
